Teachers

Rev. Hye Wol Sunim was
first ordained in Sri Lanka in 1977 and took robes in the Korean Zen
tradition in 1984. Rev Sunim studied with Buddhist masters in Sri
Lanka, Thailand, China, Australia, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. He arrived
in the US in 1991 where he translates Pali texts and teaches from the early discourses of the Buddha.
Rev. Sunim founded the Meditation Center for Zen Communities (MCZC)
and has created a Center in Pearblossom California. Rev. Sunim
is the guiding teacher for The Insight Center.

Michael Shiffman, Ph.D.,
founded LA Dharma in 1999 and co-founded the Insight Center in 2006.
He studied with numerous Western teachers and currently studies with
Rev. Hye Wol Sunim. Michael has an extensive background working with
anxiety, panic, traumatic stress, substance abuse and relapse prevention,
and body-oriented therapeutic practices. He teaches and has a
mindfulness-based counseling practice (specializing in somatic experiencing)
at the Insight Center.

Juliet Soopikian, MFT,
is a psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience working with
mental illness, addictions, dual diagnosis and family related issues.
In Iran she practiced various meditations since age 8, and, after a
life threatening illness, learned Vipassana (insight or mindfulness meditation) in 1998. She studied with
numerous Western teachers and currently studies with Rev. Hye Wol
Sunim. She co-founded The Insight Center in West Los Angeles where she
teaches and provides psychotherapy.
