March 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Home of Michael Shiffman and Sherry Angel, 4956 Gaviota Ave
Encino,CA91436United States

VOICE DIALOGUE is a simple yet profound method for accessing and honoring the many selves that live within each of us. The resulting experience is an ever deepening sense of wholeness, self-acceptance, aliveness and choice. Voice Dialogue creates a living experience of your whole self and supports participants to access parts of themselves in a non-pathologizing process by honoring conscious and unconscious aspects of ourselves. This developmental theory views the human psyche as an intricate network of selves, forming an inner family that affects us cognitively, somatically and behaviorally. This way of working with enables therapists to quickly identify underlying issues and facilitate insight and change.

We often hear clients say that they feel like their body was hijacked in the face of a triggering event. They can’t think, their nervous system seems to have a mind of its own. They loose their sense of home with their sense of self compromised. Mindfulness and somatic awareness practices can be key factors in returning to a secure experience of their felt-sense, a return home to safety.

Breaking out of Theoretical Silos

April 29 @ 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
The Insight Center, 1404 Greenfield Ave.
Los Angeles,CA90025

Psychotherapists study a wide variety of theories and techniques. Some of us are “identified” with a particular modality, but realize in practice that our work actually incorporates many modalities. Traditional training lacks theoretical integration for the effective treatment of the whole person. This course will use a developmental lens to explore key concepts from affective neurobiology and attachment theory and then integrate major psychoanalytic theories (object relations, depth, relational and intersubjective), with cognitive, cognitive behavioral, social, existential and humanistic theories.

Clinical Intuition in Psychotherapy

May 20 @ 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
The Insight Center, 1404 Greenfield Ave.
Los Angeles,CA90025

How do we know exactly what to do and say as psychotherapists? Clinical intuition is indispensable to effective psychotherapy, yet the topic is rarely discussed within the current social politics of our field. Clinical intuition fills the gap between theory and practice through moment-to-moment, embodied perceptions and emergent responses unique to each person, moment, and therapeutic dyad. This workshop explores conscious as well as nonconscious aspects of intuition that arise in therapists and patients alike. An interactive format integrates interpersonal neurobiology with artful dimensions of psychotherapy.

The Mask of Self-Deception

June 24 @ 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
The Insight Center, 1404 Greenfield Ave.
Los Angeles,CA90025

Imagination is central to the art of psychotherapy and is hard-wired into our very neurons. Imagination lies at the heart of empathy and is a major force in change. Imagination underlies the positive experiences of vision, expectation, hope, and fantasy in therapists and patients alike. But imagination gone amok also lies at the heart of catastrophic vision, chronic anxiety, projection, delusion, and self-deception. This course uses interpersonal neurobiology as a framework to understand how imagination develops and evolves throughout life from early parent-child interactions and pretend play.
