November 13, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm PST

Betrayal Trauma and the
Infidelity Repair Process

Marty Simpson, LMFT

November 13, 2021
1:00 – 5:00 PM PST

Do you know what you should never say to a betrayed partner or the number one thing a betrayer does to slow the repair process or what to tell a partner whose heterosexual spouse has been having sexual contact outside his/her orientation?

This workshop will examine Betrayal Trauma and the infidelity repair process based on a dozen years of helping couples heal from infidelity and sex addiction.

Whether you are treating the betrayer, the betrayed, or couples recovering from infidelity, whether the betrayal is due to compulsive sexual behavior or a one-time affair, whether the betrayal involved porn, sexting, sex-workers, or an affair, bring your questions.

This workshop will help you understand the neurobiology of the betrayal trauma response, the difference between codependency and trauma when dealing with the partner of a sex addict, and the importance of including psychoeducation, trauma processing and mindfulness in the healing process.

This workshop will cover:

  • The betrayal experience and PTSD
  • Diagnostic assessment & evaluation
  • Indicators of a need for a higher level of care
  • Managing the crisis of discovery
  • What is the Formal Disclosure process and am I qualified to facilitate it?
  • Why is polygraph used and is it therapeutic?
  • What is therapeutic separation and when is it helpful?

At the end of the workshop students will be able to:

  • Identify the difference between Betrayal Trauma vs codependency in their clients
  • Learn techniques for emotional regulation specific to Betrayal Trauma
  • Know how to help clients set effective boundaries for their protection
  • Understand the stages of healing from infidelity
  • Help the Betrayer manage trauma triggers in couple’s therapy
  • Gain tools for helping couples repair their sexual intimacy
