Most of us were taught that gender and sexual orientation were binary – boys and girls, masculine and feminine. We now know that gender is fluid and exists on a spectrum. This creates confusion for therapists and challenges for our clients. Learning the current terminology, and understanding “the gender spectrum,” supports our comfort and increases our sensitivity to gender related issues more generally.
Understanding the treatment needs and concerns of the transgender community is a complex task. Many trans people are afraid to embrace their true gender due to social and familial consequences. While we have entered a new age when the need for trans people to remain in the shadows is changing, our understanding of the issues
In this workshop we will explore ways to provide effective support, guidance and information to transgender clients, their family, friends and co-workers. Learn what you need to know in order to be helpful to the Transgender client as well as deepen your capacity to address gender related issues. Discover the richness and diversity within the Transgender population and what to do if you become the first person a transgender client ever comes out to.
Continuing Education:
Purchase CE CertificateContinuing Education Units are available. A CE certificate is issued for a $20 charge. Instructions for purchasing CE certificates will be emailed once registration is completed and certificates are issued after the workshop is completed. Continuing Education Certificates must be purchased within thirty (30) days of the event.
