This workshop is designed to give you ideas you can immediately integrate into your practice.

All the sections are based my conviction that what is healing about psychotherapy is first and foremost the relationship between you and your client. Whatever your theoretical orientation or the techniques you utilize in your practice it is the relationship that heals. I am also a firm believer in the connection between body and mind in psychotherapy, which leads to the necessity to understand both the top down and bottom up approach.

The first section is my idea of a Swiss Army Knife for your practice. It is based on my 35 years of experience as a psychotherapist. I call it my Universal Treatment Plan. It describes overarching goals and objectives for all your clients irrespective of their DSM diagnosis. The plan also includes my hand curated reading list. This section also includes a discussion of how we as therapists describe the work we do and how that understanding is critical that is to our own effectiveness.

The second section will be an explanation of somatic practice and what you need to know to incorporate somatic interventions with your client in your sessions. The integration of body sensations are imperative to the healing of our clients. You will learn the basic techniques to help your clients create new neural pathways for healing.

Section three is a healthy relationship assessment. This tool presents a directive approach to couple assessment and leads to a treatment plan for relationship repair.

In the fourth section I will discuss working relationally with “Trust Me They’re Going to Say It.”  This is a list of common phrases frequently used by clients and demonstrates how to use them for relational interventions that deepen the therapeutic connection in the intersubjective frame.

There will be demos for each section and ample opportunity for questions. I can also guarantee discussions of attachment strategies our clients use. I can’t do it any other way!

At the end of the workshop you will be able to form a useful treatment plan for all your clients, you will have an understanding of somatic interventions, you will be able to provide a directive assessment of couple disruptions, and you will have practical ideas for working intersubjectively with your clients.

Please join us for a fun four hours!
